Ray Ortiz
Living in the high desert of New Mexico, surrounded by mountains and huge vistas, has greatly influenced my art. Painting is a healing process for me, almost meditative. I believe the inner quality of who we are as people comes through in our work.
I have won numerous juried awards in the New Mexico Masterworks Shows, in the miniature and Pen and Ink category.
In my opinion I have studied with some of the best watercolor artists in the New Mexico, Dorothy Voorhees, Jay Drummond, Bud Edmondson, and Carol Carpenter.
I have attempted to gather the important ideas that I love about art, with a genuine longing to learn and improve my paintings along my journey.
About the Plein Air Friends… The Plein Air Friends group has been a very rewarding experience for me, the honest sharing of ideas, and continued support from highly talented and caring group of painters, my friends, is a lifetime art education. The willingness to honestIy critique a painting, to help improve the final work of art, cannot be measured.
